"I'm so tired, I haven't slept a wink I'm so tired, my mind is on the blink" - July 16th 2010
Although The Beatles were lamenting the loss of love in their 1968 song "I'm So Tired," I can't help but identify with their lyrics. Now that our little man is nearly 6 months old (wow times flies when...) I have yet to catch up on what I now realize was a favourite pastime - SLEEP! All the feather pillows and sleepy zzz's couldn't compare to the pleasure I feel during my daily play and prattle with our son (alliteration....!), however some days (like today), usually about midday, thoughts of cuddling up and catching a few winks creep into my mind.
The other reason I can relate to The Beatles song is that all this sleeplessness has created a mummy (funny how mummy and mommy are so closely spelled out!). Did I brush my teeth today? Did I feed the dog? Do I even have my shirt on the right way? My mind, to say the least, most definitely has moments of "blinking" out. Remedy? I write EVERYTHING down. I have pads of paper, post-it notes, and if toilet paper wasn't so flimsy I would probably use that too! Some days my notorious note-taking works wonders. Other days.... I can only hope all our wonderful customers won't notice my "interesting" style of t-shirt wearing and hair-styling...

When I see you smile... - April 28 2010
Our little man has the most addictive smile. His big toothless grin brightens our day and lightens up our nights. Before today I thought nothing could top the way he grins from ear to ear. And then he giggled! Wow... nothing could have prepared me for the total body warming experience that I felt when he belted out a big belly laugh over the early morning shenanigans I put myself through to see his precious face light up. One word - amazing. My main goal in life, over anything I have ever previously set for myself, is to keep that little man giggling into adulthood.

Two Hands - April 3rd 2010
Growing up it was common to hear my mother exasperate to her three young children, "I only have two hands." At the time this meant little more to me then the obvious fact that my brother and/or sister were receiving the attention that I was demanding. Oh, the things we learn as we grow up and expand our little worlds into new roles and responsibilities! In the past couple of months there have been many times when my mothers voice has popped into my head with this mantra of motherhood. Not only have I realized that two hands are only capable of handling so much (mostly diapers and nipple creme these days!), but that on most days I wish I could sprout 3 or 4 more pairs!
On the journey of opening our store and expecting our first child we decided that we wanted to not only lend our hands to the community of Peterborough but also to create a network for parents to find hands that were willing to help. Our thoughts behind this were simple - if we don't have the answers then we will offer a space within our store where those answer can be found. We started the notice board and the New Mom's Group in hopes that community stakeholders would willingly post their information for new and expecting parents to utilize in their journey into parenthood. In the time since we opened we have seen this community of "helping hands" grow. For that we thank you.
Now that I am finding my feet with parenting I am hoping that "I only have two hands" will change into a great line from artist Ben Harper - "With my own two hands." I hope this change and the inspiration we are trying to foster at Glow will encourage other Mommy's as well. |
